What IS new at Vavoom?

Apologies right off the hop for being so delinquent with the lack of postings. It's been such a crazy, busy time. I've been so wrapped up brainstorming new projects for Vavoom and prepping for the upcoming wedding season that I lose track of time and then it hits me in the middle of the night...My Blog; I haven't been posting...what ever will my 2 followers do? *wink*

So, here we are the beginning of April. The start of new growth and warm sunny days. New Spring trends on the runways and in makeup. Vavoom has joined the ranks of the celebrities who tweet and has embraced Twitter. I'm still learning all the jargon and #marks and @vavoommakeup but I am tweeting! To follow me on Twitter and hear my random ramblings and live tweets from gigs search VavoomMakeup. I''ll make you a deal...you follow me; I'll follow you (fair? I think so!)

Vavoom is continuing to advertise on Wedding Girl and if you are getting married or know someone who is this is the site for you. It is chocked full of amazing ideas and resources for all your wedding needs.

I have just completed and emailed out our first ever newsletter. This will come out quarterly spotlighting our service specials.

I have tonnes of new projects on the horizon namely our first digital publication. Vavoom is launching an online magazine which will hopefully be ready for distribution by early May. Inside you will find easy tips and tricks for the most common beauty (dare I say) problems, submissions from professional hairstylists, my signature easy 5-minute face, and guest spots from my network of makeup artist and esthetician colleagues. I am still in the editing faze and am looking for the perfect name for the magazine. I will be holding a contest shortly to name the mag. If your suggestion is chosen you'll win a big basket o' swag!

Did someone say "How to" and "Behind the scenes" videos? I thought so! Stay tuned for these. I'm so excited to start producing these. They will all be available on Facebook to enjoy and share!

Many more things to come but I don't want to give them all away just yet.

Happy Spring Everyone! Why not step out of the shadows and go bold with a pretty coral or pink lipgloss!

Vodka...Cocktail or Toner?

As I cleaned out my studio I came across some of my favorite beauty home remedies....have a look, give them a try! I've tried all of these and have gotten some great results.

1. Vodka and Lemon Toner - mix 1/4 cup of vodka and the juice from 1 lemon. Pat on face, neck and chest with cotton pad. Do not rub. No need to rinse. It will evaporate and leave tired skin looking toned. Mix a bit extra and add sugar to taste for a well deserved cocktail! YUMMY!

2. Honey and Baby Oil - combined and rubbed on the body will make it incredibly soft. Rinse off before leaving the tub!

3. Herbal Wraps - so easy to do and similar to expensive spa treatments. Mix 1/2 cup of grapefruit juice, 2 t. of dried thyme and one cup of olive oil. Work in a circular motion into the thigh, butt and hip areas, cover with plastic wrap (this will lock in the heat created from your body). Relax for 15 minutes. Remove wrap and rinse. O'La'La!

4. Cucumbers - peel and crush 1/4 cucumber into a pulp and dab all over face and neck. Great for oily skin and to unclog pores.

Wedding WOW Factor

It's my favorite time of year...Wedding Season. It's also my busiest and I love working with brides. There is something so special about being an integral part in transforming a Bride on her special day. Working with her natural beauty and making her best features POP! Below I share my Top 10 beauty secrets for Brides. Have a look and feel free to add your own to our comment section

Top Ten Beauty Secrets Every Bride should Know

Every bride wants to look ravishing on her big day. Here are the top ten beauty tricks you need to know about to wow your groom when you do that aisle walk.

Tip 1 – Start a skincare routine as soon as possible.

Go to a department store at a quiet time and get a few free skincare consultations. Discuss any skin problems you may have and find out what kind of skincare regimen would most benefit you. Make sure you pick up a good exfoliation product.

Tip 2 – Drink at least two litres of water a day.

This will cleanse your system of toxins, keeping your complexion clear and giving it a bright, luminous look.

Tip 3 – Use high factor sunscreen.

Sun exposure dries your skin out, makes it look patchy and pigmented and gives you premature wrinkles. Protect your skin with high factor sunscreen and you’ll have a smooth, even complexion for your wedding day.

Tip 4 – Choose a quality tanning treatment.

If you want a tanned look, visit a beautician for a professional tanning treatment. Steer clear of products that may stain your dress and be sure to exfoliate thoroughly beforehand. Arrange your final application a couple of days before your wedding.

Tip 5 – Visit the hairdressers every 6 to 8 weeks.

Ask for a deep conditioning treatment each time you visit the hairdresser. The results will amaze you.

Tip 6 – Get into shape the easy way.

Make good diet and exercise part of your routine. You should be doing at least half an hour’s aerobic exercise a minimum of three times a week, so choose something you enjoy doing like dancing, running, swimming or cycling. Eat plenty of fruit, vegetables and high protein food like fish, meat, seafood and poultry.

Tip 7 – Use hand cream every day and give yourself a manicure once a week.

Finish off with a professional, classic French manicure and perhaps even a pedicure the day before your wedding.

Tip 8 – When it comes to pre-wedding hair removal, waxing is your best option.

It gives the smoothest finish of all and will keep you hair-free throughout your honeymoon.

Tip 9 – Leave hair colouring to the professionals.

No home hair dye kits please! If you want to experiment with a new colour, try it out well before your wedding day so you have time to change it if it doesn’t look good. You can’t go wrong with natural looking highlights which complement your skin tone and highlight your eyes.

Tip 10 – Choose a first-rate makeup artist and hairdresser.

Your makeup artist and hairdresser are there to make you look great all day and you’ll find their expertise invaluable

Calvin Klein The Inspiration

Early this week I had the pleasure of collaborating with Cory Schmidt and Holly Johnson; two up and coming models in the Industry. We gathered at Tracy Gibbs' studio to do a Calvin Klein inspired underwear shoot. Tracy was the brains behind this wonderful idea and I was on board 110%. As the Director of Photography she wanted to capture a natural look through the images. These images needed to portray a story. A sexy, smoldering intimate portrait. When I had my first glance at Holly I was thrilled. This natural beauty with amazing cheek bones and a structured jawline was a makeup artist's dream. Cory was next in my chair; after a quick shave his baby soft skin glowed to perfection! The creative process takes time and energy from all involved. As Tracy is busy editing all the final proofs I thought I would share some behind the scene shots of how a photoshoot comes together. Enjoy! I will post some of the final images as they become available.

Vavoom Advertises

Welcome to my very first blog post designed to keep everyone updated on what I have been doing and what is coming up. In late April Vavoom began advertising in Hamilton Magazine which reaches 152,000 readers monthly! It’s time to get Vavoom out there.

As this was my first ad I was torn if only for a moment as to use a "stock" photo or put out a casting call, find a photographer, run a test shoot and create my own image for this ad. In the end, I worked with a very talented Tracy Gibbs, a local photographer who has an eye like no other. We've become fast friends and I look forward to continued creative collaborations with her.

I am very proud of our first attempt and I am thrilled that ours was placed top center on the page of "A Better You" feature page!
